Cinder Basin
The ground never cools. Neither do the arguments over who gets power.
TERRITORY CONCEPT PAINTING / NOT GAMEPLAY“A full vault cannot turn a turbine.”
Borrowed fire
The Basin sits above a seam of heat that predates every border on the map. The first settlers lowered a heat exchanger into an abandoned borehole. Their grandchildren now manage a chain of turbines, battery yards and substations. The machine is larger; the maintenance book still starts with the same handwritten warning: listen before you open the valve.
A grid with no spare hour
Refineries want power at dawn. The Archive wants power always. Winter settlements need heat exactly when the northern transmission lines become hardest to reach. Dispatchers move allocations with grease pencils across a wall-sized board. Every erased line has someone waiting at the other end.
The quiet shift
The Union measures a good day by what does not happen. No pressure spike. No dark ward. No frozen pipe. Its crews are suspicious of grand monuments and fond of spare parts. Beneath the central turbine hall, they keep a silver reserve earmarked for one thing: paying the workers who restore the grid when the grid cannot pay them.
