After the erased years
When the Long Brownout took the old registries offline, neighbours discovered they held identical claims to the same land. The Open Ledger was founded by surveyors, archivists and tired mediators. They cannot prevent a lie. They can make it harder for a lie to become the only surviving account.
Three copies, three places
An important record travels to the Archive, the settlement it concerns and an independent witness. The Ledger also keeps paper extracts for outages. Its seal means a claim has a traceable history; it is never a promise that the claim will remain undisputed.
The price of being exact
Their methods slow a frontier that is often in a hurry. During the Silverwake evacuation, a keeper refused to validate an ore shipment without its assay sheet. The shipment waited. So did the relief crew it was meant to pay. The incident is now taught to every apprentice under a blunt heading: accuracy is not the whole duty.
